Common questions about progressive yoga
If you already have a consistent foundation in yoga, understand basic alignment, and are familiar with core breathing techniques, you are ready. You do not need to be a “perfect” yogi or highly flexible; rather, a Progressive class requires a basic level of body awareness and the willingness to explore slightly longer holds, continuous movement sequences like Surya Namaskara, and deeper meditation spaces.
In a beginners class, Yoga Nidra focuses primarily on basic physical body rotation and simple relaxation to calm stress. As your concentration matures, the Progressive practices introduce more sophisticated internal techniques – such as advanced breath awareness, pairs of opposites (sensory integration), and visualisation. This allows the practice to become a powerful vehicle for uncovering deep mental patterns and resting in pure presence.
While this class builds directly on traditional Satyananda techniques, it is absolutely open to students coming from other classical styles, such as Hatha, Vinyasa, or Iyengar. As long as you have a steady foundation in yoga basics, a knowledge of Sun Salutations, and an appreciation for a slower, deeply mindful, and internal approach to movement, you will fit into this group beautifully.
These weekly group sessions are hosted at my peaceful, central studio space in Eastbourne, East Sussex. The venue is easily accessible for intermediate students traveling in from surrounding local towns such as Lewes, Polegate, Hailsham, and Seaford. Because my advanced classes often draw long-term practitioners from across the region, advance booking online is highly recommended to secure your place.
To truly experience the progression of these practices, booking a consecutive term or block is highly recommended. The curriculum is designed to build systematically week-by-week – gradually layering complex breathing ratios and expanding the scope of your home practice. However, if you are an experienced practitioner visiting the East Sussex coast or checking your compatibility with my style, taster drop-in spots can be booked online based on studio availability.
