Common questions about movement in truth
Not at all. Conscious dance is completely different from a structured dance class. There are no steps to memorize, no routines to follow, and no right or wrong ways to move. It is a form of somatic movement where you listen entirely to your body’s internal impulses. Whether your movement looks like a dynamic, high-energy dance, a slow stretch, or simply swaying gently in one spot, it is perfect. All that is required is an open heart, curiosity, and a willingness to feel.
I recommend wearing loose, comfortable, and layered clothing that allows you to move freely and adapt as your body warms up and cools down. To help you connect firmly with the ground and protect the studio floors, conscious dance is traditionally practiced in bare feet. However, if you require foot support for physical health reasons, soft-soled indoor dance shoes or non-slip yoga socks are completely welcome.
Yes, absolutely. This practice is completely inclusive and welcoming to individuals of all abilities, fitness levels, and age groups. Because the class is entirely self-paced and free-form, there is zero physical pressure. I hold a deeply respectful, compassionate space where you are always in complete control of your movement, boundaries, and level of social interaction.
Feeling self-conscious when you first step onto a conscious dance floor is incredibly normal. My container is designed to actively dissolve that anxiety by emphasising internal feeling over external appearance. While the practice offers beautiful opportunities to play and connect with others in the room, you are always completely free to close your eyes, internalise your journey, and dance entirely with yourself.
The 10-dance pass offers fantastic flexibility and value for regular attendees. It can be used interchangeably across both Eastbourne evening sessions and Upper Dicker morning circles. While booking in advance helps to manage hall capacities seamlessly, you can also use your pass for spontaneous attendance – simply send me a quick WhatsApp message to confirm your spot before turning up.
