Traditional Thai Yoga Massage

“A combination of accupressure, applied yoga and gentle stretching. It is the physical application of ‘Metta’ – Loving Kindness”

About Traditional Thai Yoga Massage

Perfect for: Anyone seeking deep relief from physical, emotional or mental tension, stress or health problems.

Traditional Thai Yoga Massage is an ancient healing art, which has its roots in India and is widely used in Thailand and Western countries today. It concentrates on an energy line system through which the body’s natural life force (prana) flows. Blockages in this life force may cause aches, pains and dis-ease.

The massage is applied through the use of hands, feet and elbows to apply pressure to important points along the energy lines, in combination with gentle stretching and applied hatha yoga. This releases blocked energy and frees the body’s own natural healing potential, thus restoring balance, health and harmony.

The gentle stretching movements, energy line and pressure point work produces a uniquely relaxing yet energising and highly effective therapeutic treatment, ideal for anyone regardless of their level of flexibility. I have been practising this ancient art for over 25 years and am honoured to restore your system to wholeness and harmony. I recommend having a 2 hour treatment where possible as it gives the body more time to open, let go and heal deeply. If you have a particular health problem you want to work with, I recommend a series of treatments which build on the previous ones offering deep, radical transformation.

Common questions about traditional Thai yoga massage

Traditional Thai Yoga Massage is fundamentally different from Western styles like Swedish or deep tissue massage in three major ways:

You remain fully clothed: There are no oils used except on the face. You wear loose, comfortable clothing (like a t-shirt and tracksuits or leggings).

It takes place on a floor mat: Instead of lying on a narrow table, the treatment happens on a large, cushioned futon mat on the floor, allowing for a much greater range of movement.

It is dynamic and interactive: Often described as “applied yoga,” I use my hands, feet, elbows, and knees to apply targeted acupressure along the body’s energy lines, combined with gentle, assisted yoga stretching. Instead of just passively receiving touch, your body is mindfully moved, stretched, and opened.

By combining deep acupressure, gentle stretching, and the physical application of Metta (loving-kindness), this ancient therapeutic treatment helps release blocked energy and restores your nervous system to wholeness. It is highly effective for a wide range of physical and structural conditions, including:

  • Musculoskeletal Relief: Back pain, sciatica, neck and shoulder stiffness, and headaches or migraines.

  • Internal Systems: Digestive disorders, circulatory issues, and respiratory support (such as asthma).

  • Women’s Health: Menstrual irregularities and pregnancy-related stress or tension.

  • Nervous System Regulation: Insomnia, chronic tiredness, low energy, depression, anxiety, and deep-seated stress.

Because it works holistically, clients frequently report feeling simultaneously grounded, deeply relaxed, and physically energized after a session.

Not at all. This treatment is highly effective and completely customisable for anyone, regardless of your current level of flexibility, age, or body type.

Because I have been practicing this ancient art for over 20 years, I am deeply experienced in reading the body’s subtle resistance. The applied stretches are adapted to meet your body exactly where it is on the day. We never force a movement; instead, we work with your breath to gently invite your muscles, joints, and nervous system to safely let go and open up at their own pace.

Traditional Thai Yoga Massage is a slow, calm, and deeply meditative process. While a shorter session is still effective, a 2-hour treatment is highly recommended because it gives the body’s nervous system the necessary time to truly drop its defences.

In a longer session, we work a little more on each area of the body, allowing the deep layers of connective tissue (fascia) to soften, release, and heal – for the body to really let go.

All private Thai Yoga Massage treatments are held in a quiet, dedicated, and deeply peaceful healing space in Eastbourne, East Sussex. The practice is easily accessible to clients visiting from Lewes, Brighton, Bexhill, Hastings, and surrounding local areas.

If you are dealing with a chronic or specific health condition, I highly recommend a targeted series of treatments that build upon one another. You can book your initial session directly with me, or through one of the links at the top of this page.

“Had the most beautiful Thai Yoga Massage today with Abhijeeta …. first full body nurturing session since pregnancy and gosh did my body need it! I felt the intense holding in my muscles and bones which began to soften half way through the massage until I felt a warm glow and a sense of whole-bodyness and I feel absolutely comfy in my body and in balance once again. Abhijeeta held such a loving safe space as she massaged and stretched me allowing tears to flow and insights to surface.”
